CLARITY Water Treatment Systems AS is awarded the Innovation Prize Oslo/Akershus, from DnB NOR (Principle Norwegian bank)

(read pdf file)

At a ceremony on June 1st at Lysebu in Holmenkollåsen, Oslo, CLARITY Water Treatment Systems AS (CLARITY WTS) was awarded DnB NOR’s Innovation Prize for the counties of Oslo and Akershus.  Clearly defeating the strong competition of 83 competitors, out of which 9 finalists were selected, CLARITY WTS was unanimously selected the winner by the expert panel. The NOK 100,000 award verifies CLARITY WTS’ technology and business strategy. Anne-Lise Aukner, the chairman of the expert panel, told those present at the ceremony that CLARITY WTS was the clear winner!

This award automatically qualifies CLARITY WTS as a participant in DnB NOR’s Innovation Prize for all of Norway, with the possibility of walking off with the winning prize of NOK 250,000.

DnB NOR has been awarding the Innovation Prize since 2003. More information about the prize can be found on DnB NOR’s website.

“It is a great honour and privilege to receive this prize“, said Steinar Joneid, inventor and founder of CLARITY WTS. “It confirms the great potential for our technology, and encourages the continuing development of our product“. Steinar Joneid and Managing Director Bjørn Tollefsrud attended the ceremony at Lysebu to accept the prize.

Clean water is at risk of becoming scarce in the world, and World Economic Forum predicts that by the year 2030 water will be a more important trade product than oil. Calculations show that although there is enough water, most of the water is becoming highly contaminated.  One of the major challenges with water is its pollutants of nutrients (such as phosphates and nitrates) which stem from (amongst other things) excess use of fertilisers, framing of fish ponds, lakes and rivers, and run-off from industrial and municipal waste storage sites.

CLARITY WTS has developed a patented technology for removing damaging nutrients from both fresh and salt water. The technology that CLARITY offers is unique, powerful and robust, and has successfully been applied to many different applications.

CLARITY WTS is located at the Bio Incubator run by Bioparken AS at Campus Ås, Norway. Such an Incubator site has been important for CLARITY in the early stages of the company, giving them access to a ready infrastructure and close proximity to the research environment at Ås. In addition to DnB NOR’s Innovation Prize, CLARITY WTS has also received two grants from Innovation Norway (a Norwegian government institution stimulating commerce in Norway) for a total of NOK 450,000.
